The song Bali Ha'i is from the Rogers and Hammerstein musical South Pacific. It is part of the plot, and most of us have seen the movie so are fairly familiar with it. I think there's a little bit of the call of Bali Ha'i developing in this story, which is what prompted me to post the video (a compelling rendition by Sarah Vaughn).
The chapter (and the story), is in the shadow of the events of September and December of 1965, that played out on Bali. I'm by no means well versed in the situation, but have endeavored to put a realistic lens to the story.
And then there's this... The SS Rotterdam in Bali, April of 1965.
